AUSTIN (KXAN) -- We're working our way through a dry start to spring and a dry start to 2025. The latest outlook from the Climate Prediction Center does not seem to spell much relief.
April is typically one of our driest months of the year, but this year, it looks to be even drier.
The April forecast released last Thursday suggests a continuation of the warmer and drier pattern that has settled in for much of March (so far).
Drought to worsen
Central Texas has already seen recent worsening of our drought. Parts of the area are in the worst 'Exceptional' (level 4 out of 4) drought.
The expected "drier-than-normal" April on the way will only make that worse. The seasonal drought forecast, also updated last Thursday, points to worsening drought or drought persisting, with little opportunity for improvement.
